Introduction

Waypoint Labs (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Ascent mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Ascent is designed so that your financial data remains under your control, stored on your device and in your personal iCloud account rather than on our servers.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Financial Data (Stored on Your Device & Your iCloud)

  • Debt information (creditor names, balances, interest rates, minimum payments)
  • Payment history and transaction records
  • Payoff strategy preferences
  • BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later) account details and promotional period dates
Important: This financial data is stored on your device using Core Data and, if you are signed into iCloud, syncs to your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service. Waypoint Labs does not have access to, cannot read, and cannot retrieve this information. Your financial data never touches our servers.

PartnerSync Data (If Enabled)

  • Partner connection status
  • Shared debt designations
  • Contribution amounts for shared debts

When you use PartnerSync, data sharing occurs through Apple's CloudKit sharing infrastructure (CKShare). Only you and your invited partner can access shared data.

Information Collected Automatically

Analytics Data (Anonymous)

  • App usage patterns (screens viewed, features used, button taps)
  • Session duration and frequency
  • Device type and iOS version
  • App version
  • Crash reports and performance data

This data is collected anonymously through PostHog and does not include your financial information, debt details, or personally identifiable information.

Subscription Data

  • Anonymous user identifier
  • Subscription status (free, trial, premium)
  • Purchase transactions
  • Subscription expiration dates

This data is processed by RevenueCat to manage your subscription status.

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Bank account credentials or login information
  • Social Security numbers or government IDs
  • Credit card numbers (purchases processed by Apple)
  • Precise location data
  • Contacts or address book information
  • Photos or media files
  • Advertising identifiers or tracking IDs

How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information we collect to:

  1. Provide the Service — Enable debt tracking, payoff calculations, and strategy recommendations
  2. Process Subscriptions — Manage premium features and subscription status through RevenueCat
  3. Improve the App — Analyze anonymous usage patterns to enhance features and fix bugs
  4. Provide Support — Respond to your inquiries and troubleshoot issues
  5. Send Notifications — Deliver payment reminders and alerts you've enabled (processed locally on your device)

Data Storage and Security

Your Financial Data

Your financial data is stored in two places:

  • Locally on your device using Core Data
  • In your iCloud account (if signed in) using Apple's CloudKit

Both storage locations are controlled by you, not Waypoint Labs. This means:

  • Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
  • Your data is protected by your Apple ID credentials
  • Your data syncs across your devices through your iCloud account
  • Waypoint Labs cannot access, view, or retrieve your financial data
  • If you delete the app, your data remains in your iCloud until you explicitly delete it

If you are not signed into iCloud, Ascent works perfectly fine with local storage only — you just won't have multi-device sync.

Our Infrastructure

Waypoint Labs does not operate servers that store user financial data. We use:

  • RevenueCat — Cloud-based subscription management (anonymous user IDs only)
  • PostHog — Cloud-based analytics (anonymous usage data only)

Third-Party Services

Apple (iCloud and CloudKit)

Your financial data is stored in Apple's CloudKit infrastructure as part of your iCloud account. Apple's privacy practices govern this storage. Apple Privacy Policy

RevenueCat

We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user identifier, purchase transaction data, and subscription status information. RevenueCat does NOT receive your financial data, debt information, or personal details. RevenueCat Privacy Policy

PostHog

We use PostHog for anonymous analytics to understand how the App is used. PostHog receives anonymous usage events, device type and OS version, and app version. PostHog does NOT receive your financial data or any personally identifiable information. PostHog Privacy Policy

Apple App Store

Purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. Apple handles all payment processing and does not share your payment information with us.

PartnerSync and Data Sharing

How PartnerSync Works

PartnerSync allows you to share debt information with a partner. When you enable PartnerSync:

  1. You create a share invitation through Apple's CloudKit sharing (CKShare)
  2. Your partner accepts the invitation on their device
  3. Shared data syncs between your iCloud accounts through Apple's infrastructure
  4. Both partners require Ascent Premium to use PartnerSync

Your Control Over Shared Data

  • You choose which debts to share (private, shared, or joint)
  • Either partner can leave PartnerSync at any time
  • Leaving creates a local snapshot of shared data
  • You can end sharing entirely if you are the share owner

Partner Privacy

Your partner's subscription status is never revealed to you. If your partner's subscription lapses, you will see a privacy-safe message that PartnerSync is paused without revealing the reason.

Local Notifications

Ascent can send you notifications for payment due date reminders, promotional period expiration warnings, milestone celebrations, and partner activity (if PartnerSync is enabled). These notifications are:

  • Scheduled and processed entirely on your device
  • Never routed through Waypoint Labs servers
  • Controllable through Settings
  • Respect your iOS notification preferences

Data Retention

Your Financial Data

Since your financial data is stored on your device and in your iCloud account, retention is controlled by you. Data persists until you delete individual debts or payments within the App, use the “Delete All Data” feature in Settings, or delete the App and remove associated iCloud data.

Analytics Data

Anonymous analytics data is retained by PostHog according to their data retention policies, typically 12-24 months.

Subscription Data

RevenueCat retains subscription data as required to provide subscription management services and comply with financial regulations.

Your Rights and Choices

Data Access

Because your financial data is stored on your device and in your iCloud account, you have direct access to it through the App at all times.

Data Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time: Open Ascent, go to Settings, tap Delete All Data, and confirm deletion. Data is removed from your device and iCloud. Your subscription status is managed by Apple and is not affected by data deletion.

Analytics Opt-Out

You can disable analytics collection by contacting us at privacy@waypointlabs.io.

Subscription Management

Manage your subscription through iOS Settings, Apple ID, then Subscriptions — or through the App under Settings.

Children's Privacy

Ascent is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete such information.

International Data Transfers

If you are accessing the App from outside the United States, please be aware that your financial data is stored in your iCloud account, governed by Apple's data residency policies. Anonymous analytics data may be processed in the United States or other countries where PostHog operates.

California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to Know — You can request information about the personal information we collect
  • Right to Delete — You can request deletion of your personal information
  • Right to Opt-Out — We do not sell personal information
  • Non-Discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page, updating the “Last Updated” date, and providing notice through the App for material changes. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
